My little girl had gone ice-skating earlier today and has broken her ankle. It is heartbreaking to see how she suffers and pains when she wants to move or go to bathroom. This all happened when I was having my readings at IWSF and later had book signing sharing a table with Amy Goodman ( meaning anyone who wanted to take a photo with her took one with me as well --I was in anyway!!) when my hubby called and said they are at the hospital. I had to cancel my interview with VOA at the last min. too. It’s been such a day.

  

 

The Prisoner of Tehran

برایم خواندن این مطلب سودابه اردوان حیرت انگیز بود. از دید من کتاب مارینا نعمت بخشی حتی جزیی از جنایات رژیم ایران است. مارینا نعمت یک زن فرانسوی نبوده که با آلمانها خوابیده باشد و حالا قرار باشد موهایش را با تیغ بزنند و بعد به دار آویخته شود! ما در سال دو هزار و هفت میلادی هستیم با تجربه حکومتهای دیکتاتوری!! مارینا نعمت حق دارد از خاطراتش بنویسد مخصوصا که او در خاطراتش از دختری شانزده ساله می نویسد که معلول انقلابی است که ایرانیان بزرگسال و به ظاهر منطقی و هموطنان مسلمانش، او، سرنوشت و زندگی اش را بازیچه قرار داده اند ( ایرانیانی که لازم دیدند انقلاب کنند تا زندگی انسانهای بسیاری را از قبیل ارتشیان، کارمندان سازمان اطلاعات و امنیت، بهاییان را از هم بدرند و بعد خود طعمه و زندانی چنین رژیم آدمخواری بشوند.) اخیرا مارینا نعمت در مصاحبه ای که با تیوس اسمایلی داشت، گفت: اگر که زمان زندانی شدنم بزرگتر می بودم و یا تجربه الان را داشت حتما متفاوت عمل می کردم. شاید می توانستم شجاعت دیگران را می داشتم.

ما در کجای تاریخ ایستاده ایم؟


اخیرا در پی چاپ کتاب "زندانی تهران" مطالب زیادی در باره نویسنده زن این کتاب، مارینا نعمت، نوشته شده است. متاسفانه بیشتر این مطالب توسط افرادی است که خود کتاب را نخوانده اند. این افراد نه نقد و بررسی که نامه های اعتراض آمیز نوشته اند! متاسفانه در این مطالب بیشتر از آنکه به جنایات رژیم پرداخته شود به نعمت و انگیزه های وی در نوشتن کتابش و درستی یا نادرستی حرف ها و ادعاهایش پرداخته شده و این از دید من معلول زیستن و شکل گرفتن در همان نظام استبدادی است که کتاب نعمت قصد افشایش را دارد.

اگرکلمه «تواب» را با بهایی، مجاهد، کمونیست، ساواکی و یا هر چیز دیگری عوض کنیم باز با اعتراضی مشابه روبرو خواهیم شد، گیرم که از گوشه ای دیگر و به وسیله جمعی دیگر. یکی از ویژگی های ذهن بسته و مستبد همین است که در رفتار فکری خود بسیط است و وابسته به چند محرک مشخص و از پیش تعیین شده. ذهن استبدادی فردیت نمی شناسد. دیدش سنگی است و واکنشش سنگی. نه تعادل می فهمد و نه تکامل. مثل سنگ بسیط است و فقط یک چیز! مثال چنین رفتاری نوشته اخیر ملیحه تیره گل است. افرادی مثل تیره گل نه هرگز پیرامون حقوق زنان، بهاییان، کردها، بلوچها، و سایر اقلیتهای مذهبی، جنسی و قومی نوشته اند و نه به آن توجه ای نشان داده اند. اما هم اینان ناگهان با چاپ کتابی از یک بازمانده ستم و سرکوب به اوعلاقمند شده و پیرامون کتابش قلم فرسایی می کنند.

دیدگاه تیره گل و زبانی که وی در نوشته خود به کار گرفته سرکوبگرانه و به قصد ارعاب است. تیره گل ابتدا خود را آزاداندیش جلوه می دهد و سپس از طریق خلط مبحث و برچسب زدن به دیگران، سعی می کند که حرف خود رابه کرسی بنشاند. کار او مثل کار کسی است که پول می گیرد تا فعال حقوق بشر باشد! تیره گل می نویسد تا نوشته باشد. می خواهد که از قافله عقب نماند و در این راه از تحریف و مسخ حرف های دیگران ابایی ندارد. او نقل قول را خلاصه می کند و در زمینه ای کاملا متفاوت با زمینه اصلی به کار می برد تا به نتیجه گیری های مطلوب خود برسد. به طور مثال وی نوشته های چند خطی وبلاگ *مرا که در آن همه گونه مطلبی، از تعویض پوشک کودکم تا بیماریم به سبب بارداری، پیدا می شود به عنوان «مقاله» معرفی می کند. بعد مرا (به عمد؟) با یک زندانی سیاسی سابق عوضی می گیرد. من هرگز ادعا نکرده ام که زندانی سیاسی بوده ام. من حتی ادعای فعال سیاسی بودن هم نداشته ام. زمانی که انقلاب ایران اتفاق می افتاد من تنها ۵ سال داشتم. ده سال بعد اما، یعنی زمانی که داشتم ایران را به قصد پاکستان ترک می کردم به اندازه کافی خفقان و بیرحمی و سانسور و سرکوب دیده بودم تا بدانم که دارم از چنگال رژیمی بی اعتنا به هرگونه مفهوم انسانی می گریزم. تاریخ انقلاب ایران چیزی نیست که بتوان به دلخواه در آن دست برد. همه می دانند که در روزهای پس از پیروزی انقلاب، عده ای، تعدادی دیگر را در خیابان ها به جرم ساواکی وارتشی و طرفدار شاه بودن از هم دریدند. آیا اعتراض کردن به این امر دلیل دفاع از شاه وساواک است یا دلیل پایبندی به حقوق بشر و سیستم داوری و جزا دهی معقول و انسانی؟!
‌ من از معدود نویسندگان و شاعران ایرانی هستم که جنایاتی که در حق بهاییان، کردها، بلوچها، سیاسیون مذهبی، چپی ها و سایر اقلیتهای مذهبی، سیاسی و قومی شده را همواره در مصاحبه ها و نوشته های خود مطرح نموده و به آن اعتراض کرده ام. چگونه کسی مانند تیره گل که خود را منتقد می خواند به مصاحبه اخیر من در سایت گزارشگران** توجه نکرده است ولی نوشته های وبلاگی مرا تحریف کرده و سپس به عنوان مرجع مورد سؤ استفاده قرار داده است؟! او حتی برای درج نوشته های من در مقاله اش از من اجازه نیز نگرفته است!

تیره گل نه تنها پایبند به معیارهای اخلاقی نقد و بررسی نیست که با توسل به تحریف، شعور خوانندگان خود را نیز تحقیر می کند. او و نویسندگانی مانند او نمی توانند تشخیص بدهند که مارینا نعمت حق نوشتن دارد، چه تواب باشد و چه نه، چه با رژیم جمهوری اسلامی همکاری کرده باشد و چه نه، چه دیدگاه هایش اورینتالیستی باشد و چه نه. فعال حقوق بشر بودن یعنی همین که آدم از حق فردی که با او موافق نیست دفاع کند. و اگر نه سنگ ایده ئولوژی خود را به سینه زدن از کسی فعال مدنی و حقوق بشری نمی سازد! امثال تیره گل بر مارینا نعمت انگشت می گذارند و او را مسبب تباهی می دانند. دیگران چنین نظری را راجع به مجاهدین وکمونیست ها وسلطنت طلبها دارند. ولی هیچکدام دقت نمی کنند که مردم یعنی همه این ها وهمه این ها بخشی از همان مردمی هستند که باید از حقوق پایمال شده شان دفاع کرد. توابان غیر از زندانیان سیاسی نبودند. عده ای مقاومت کردند و از بین رفتند و عده ای زیرشکنجه های جسمی و روانی طاقت فرسا مجبور به همکاری با رژیم شدند. حقوق بشر می گوید که با اینان نه به مثابه مجرم که به مثابه افرادی که در حقشان جرمی صورت گرفته رفتار شود. و اولین کار برای انجام این مهم، گوش کردن به حرف های آنان است، تشویق کردنشان به بیان خاطرات زجزآور خود و یادآوری کردن به آنان (و به خود) که آنچه که ما را از جمهوری اسلامی جدا می کند همین رفتار متفاوت ما با «دیگران» است !!

I was reading Soudabeh Ardavan’s article on Marina Nemat and how Marina has become the voice of the prisoners when in fact she had married a torturer, etc. First of all in her book Marina describes pieces of the crimes committed by the Iranian regime. Secondly we don’t live in France where women who slept with German officers to survive are to be hanged with shaved heads! This is 2007 and we do have the experience of the current regime. Marina Nemat has the right to write her memories. She was sixteen (a teenager) and a Christian whose fellow countrymen/women felt it a necessity to ruin many innocent lives (army officers, intelligent officers, Bahaies, are just a few groups of people who were executed, murdered, or hanged because or by the revolutionaries)! Marina in a recent interview with Tavis Smiley did say she may have reacted differently in prison if she was older and had known what she knows now.

  

 

My breasts are heavy, my thighs have gained a lot of weight, and so has my face these past few months. I went to buy some maternity clothing and the prices are sky high. I don’t know what they think when they price these cloths. I don’t want to pay $250 for a shirt! It will be equivalent of one grocery shopping and many ice creams for the little girl.

  

 

Tehran Burning

The capital of world's second-biggest energy reserves is burning because the regime has a new policy to ration petrol and put up pump prices. Iran spends more than $5 billion a year (yes! more than 40 percent of the gasoline it uses) to import it. Iran has little refining capacity but the regime wants a nuclear bomb!

  

 

Iran: A Basement Culture!

So I guess we have to be proud that we are a basement culture. That we are something to your face and different in your absence. I look at this fashion show in Iran and I wonder if these people could sink any lower than what has been institutionalized in their blood and bones. This basement culture is not a product of this regime. The basement culture existed during shah’s regime as well. The difference was that the stoning, and psycho acts that we see under the current regime of Iran were not celebrated by people or the previous regime. The criminals would severely get punished. Now under the current regime these people who have attended this fashion show are happy that they belong to the bunch of hypocrites who can enjoy a fashion show in a basement. The issue is not who is rich and who is poor. Never mind that these people can’t care less for the stoning, or the public executions happening in their cities. What bothers me is that these people don’t have the dignity to tell themselves they are entitle to have a fashion show in public not in a basement!

فعالين سياسی، فرهنگی و اجتماعی: احکام صادره شده توسط دادگاه ها
شاخوان حسینی 20 ساله به جرم فعالیت سیاسی در شعبه اول دادگاه انقلاب سقز به 8 سال حبس محکوم گردید. نامبرده از 8 ماه پیش در بازداشت بسر می برد. همچنین هوشنگ قادری 21 ساله به جرم فعالیت سیاسی، اقدام علیه امنیت ملی و تبلیغ علیه نظام در دادگاه انقلاب به 4 سال 91 روز به حبس محکوم گردید.

یوسف رحمانی پور 25 ساله ساکن شهرستان بوکان به اتهام همکاری با احزاب سیاسی در دادگاه انقلاب بوکان بدون حضور وکیل به 9 سال و 6 ماه حبس محکوم شد. نامبرده اوائل سال گذشته بازداشت و پس از 9 ماه با قرار وثیقه 100 میلیون تومانی از زندان آزاد گردید.(سازمان دفاع از حقوق بشر کردستان 21/3/86)

حسن نوری، برادر مهدی نوری دانشجوی بازداشتی گفت: برادرم سال گذشته پس از اعتراضات مردمی خرداد ماه در آذربایجان بازداشت شد و بر اساس سه پرونده ای که در ارومیه، تبریز و نقده داشت، به 7 سال زندان و 3 سال تبعید محکوم شد. حکم صادره در دادگاه تجدید نظر هم تائید گردید. وی گفت: برادرم از هفدهم اردیبهشت در بازداشت بسر می برد، تنها خواسته ما این است که چند روزی به برادرم مرخصی بدهند تا بتواند امتحانات خود را بدهد زیرا برادرم ترم آخر است و سال گذشته هم به علت بازداشت نتوانست امتحانات خود را بدهد و احتمال اخراج وی وجود دارد.(ایلنا 22/3/86)

خالد محمدی قرا اوغلان اهل یک روستا در حومه شهرستان مهاباد به اتهام همکاری و عضویت در یکی از احزاب مخالف دولت و خروج غیر قانونی از مرز به 3 سال زندان محکوم شد. نامبرده از پانزده ماه پیش در زندان بسر می برد. وی به منظور دریافت امان نامه، به همراه همسر و فرزندش از کردستان عراق به ایران مراجعت کرده بود.

قاضی حسن حداد معاون امنیت دادستانی تهران اعلام کرد: بازجویی از هاله اسفندیاری، کیان تاجبخش و علی شاکری توسط وزارت اطلاعات وزیر نظر معاونت امنیت دادسرای تهران انجام شده و ادامه دارد.(ایلنا 21/3/86)

هاشم شاهی نیا که به اتهام هواداری از سازمان مجاهدین خلق ایران، 2 سال پیش در دادگاه بدوی، در شعبه 26 دادگاه انقلاب تهران به ریاست قاضی حسن حداد به 5 سال زندان محکوم شده بود، حکم وی در دادگاه تجدید نظر به شش سال و نیم حبس تعزیری افزایش یافته است.(فعالان حقوق بشر در ایران 23/3/86)

زندانیان سیاسی مفقود الاثر:
قاسم دانشفر 25 ساله اهل مهاباد و عضو یک حزب کردی 24 سال پیش توسط نیروهای امنیتی دستگیر و به زندان ارومیه منتقل می شود. از آن زمان تاکنون هیچ اطلاعی از وضعیت ایشان در دست نیست.

منصور عبدالی فرزند عبدالله متولد 1346 عضو یک حزب کرد مخالف دولت 15 سال پیش در منطقه مرزی پیرانشهر هنگام خروج از مرز توسط نیروهای امنیتی جمهوری اسلامی دستگیر و زندانی شده است. از آن زمان تاکنون اطلاع موثقی از وضعیت نامبرده توسط خانواده اش دریافت نشده است.(سازمان دفاع از حقوق بشر کردستان 21/3/86)

یک شهروند اهل سقز به نام احمد شریفی فرزند عبدالله متولد 1335 در دی ماه 1375 در شهر سلیمانیه عراق توسط نیروهای انتظامی و اطلاعاتی ایران ربوده شده و به زندان سقز منتقل شده بود. نامبرده عضو یک سازمان سیاسی چپ ایرانی بوده و بعدها به مکان نامعلومی منتقل گردیده و از آن تاریخ تاکنون هیچگونه اطلاعی از وضعیت و یا سرنوشت وی در دست نیست. خانواده و بستگان احمد شریفی خواهان تعیین وضعیت سرنوشت و ناپدیدی وی شده اند.

Being pregnant and dreamy is not new to me but feeling exhausted is. I go through several emotions these days. Insecurities and nervousness with a new baby, joy, worries and most of all tiredness are just a few to name. I wake up with backache. To add to all of these we have not found a house yet and it is a bit stressful. I don’t feel like I can survive another American suburb life style like I had in Connecticut. I need to live in the city. I am a city girl after all! Having a farm and a windmill as the closest tourist attraction to my home is just a big no no!

  

 

چند روز پیش یکی که قرار هست بهترین کتاب راجع به ایران رو در نیویورک تایمز یا یکی از همین نشریات معروف اسم ببره ازم پرسید به نظر تو بهترین کتاب چیه. منم گفتم کتاب شعر خودم "پژواک در تبعید". شعر اولش راجع به سنگسار هست و بقیه هم که به چیزهای مشابه پرداخته اند. گفت: نباید کتاب شعر باشه. گفتم پس کتاب مارینا نعمت. امیدوارم کتابش لیست بشه. هر چی جنایات رژیم ایران بیشتر خونده بشه بهتره. مارینا رو می خواستن اعدام کنن. مهمتر از همه یک ایرانی مسیحی بوده و تو زندان اوین به زور مسلمون شده. این از دید من به یک خواننده غربی بیشتر و بهتر کمک می کنه که هم با نویسنده و هم واقعیت زندگی انسان ایرانی ارتباط برقرار کنه.

I was reading Hossein Derakhshan’s latest two posts and it is just too much! I don’t really care for what Shadi Sadr is doing or is not. To me she seems to be the Iranian regime’s to-be-Khatami figure for a future of Iran! She is trained by Rafsanjani’s daughter and has too many Mosharekatis and like minded on board but what Derakhshan writes about her is just sickening. Why shouldn’t Shadi or anyone for that matter bring attention to the horrendous act of stoning in Iran? It is not like the Iranian regime has ever had the interest of Iranians in mind or it would not commit and continue to commit such crimes against its own people!

It has been brought to my attention that the Iranian regime is starting a program to castrate prostitutes in Iran. Can a ruling group of people be any worse than what we see and have in Iran? When you think there is no more crimes that this regime can commit they shock you with a new method.

Background: Recent Attacks against Baha’is in Iran
June 2007

Reports and documents filtering out of Iran over the last six months indicate a widespread and calculated effort by the government to maintain and gradually intensify the persecution of Iranian Baha'is.

The evidence tells of continued efforts by the government to monitor and identify Baha'is; further incidents of abuse and discrimination directed at Baha'i students at all levels; stepped-up efforts to deprive Baha'is of their livelihood; and ongoing attacks on the Baha'i Faith in the official news media.

This summary focuses on the period from November 2006 to May 2007, citing a number of confirmed incidents that give ample evidence that the intentions underlying the 25 February 1991 secret memorandum from the Iranian Supreme Revolutionary Cultural Council, which outlines a plan for the quiet elimination of the Baha’i community in Iran, remain in force.

Taken together, these incidents paint a picture of a government-led effort to make the Baha’is physically vulnerable, to instill in them social and occupational insecurity, and in general to create a climate of fear.

Moreover, this effort clearly seeks to disengage Baha'is from their friends and fellow citizens by generating suspicion and mistrust — even hatred — in the hearts of individuals in society at large, part of a larger effort to impede the social, economic, and cultural progress of the Baha'i community and to block its growth.

Amassing information on the Baha’is

Among the most worrisome trends over the last several years has been the emergence of evidence that the Iranian government is secretly working to identify and monitor Baha'is, an effort that some observers have compared the German government's effort to collect information on Jews at the beginning of the Nazi era.

Recent incidents include:

* Evidence that efforts are being made in the school system to identify Baha’i students of all ages and the members of their families throughout Iran. As an example, the Security Office of the Education Department in Shiraz has circulated a form to be completed for all students “who belong to religious minorities and the perverse Baha’ist sect.” The form requires not only detailed information about the student and his or her parents, but also detailed information on all the student’s siblings. Under “Religion” are listed four options: “Christian; Jew; Zoroastrian; the perverse sect of Baha’ism.”

* Reports of attempts to obtain information through surreptitious means, such as people posing as journalists or questioning children playing in the street.
* Baha’is who are known to the Ministry of Information are unrelentingly harassed to give personal information regarding other Baha’is.
* Reports of stepped-up interrogations of Baha'is. In February 2007, for example, police in certain sectors of Tehran, and in Bandar Abbas, Muhammadiyyih, Shirvan, and Kirmanshah, began going to the homes and businesses of Baha’is and interrogating them at length regarding the members of their families, occupations, education, etc., sometimes in the guise of conducting a survey. Baha’is who were questioned in their places of business were also asked for their work permits, whether they owned the business, the number of employees and their relationships to each other. In two instances, Baha’is were summoned to the local police station for this questioning. In one case, when the Baha’is asked why they were being asked to participate in this “survey,” they were told: “We have our orders from the head office.” On another occasion the reason given was that the information would assist the authorities to solve any problem that would arise.

These incidents come after international human rights groups have expressed concern about previous documents regarding Iran’s effort to amass as much information as possible on Baha'is and their activities.

The most significant document on this effort was the emergence of a secret letter dated 29 October 2005 and signed by the Chairman of Command Headquarters of the Iranian Armed Forces, instructing commanders of various state intelligence services, police units, and the Revolutionary Guard to "identify" Baha'is and “collect any and all information” about their activities.

* A letter dated 19 August 2006 from the Ministry of Interior ordering officials throughout the country to step up the surveillance of Iranian Baha'is, focusing in particular on their community activities.

Attacks against Baha’i schoolchildren

Baha’i schoolchildren continue to be subjected to severe harassment, vilification, and other forms of intense psychological pressure, as was first reported in April 2007.

Moreover, a campaign appears to be under way to “educate” school teachers throughout the country about the Baha’i Faith by providing them with instruction and materials that perpetuate the gross falsifications of Baha’i history and teachings along the lines that have been traditionally been used in attacks on the Faith in Iran and that are currently being repeated in the propaganda disseminated through the mass media.

Specifically, on 23 April 2007, a group of high school religion teachers from 14 provinces visited a center for religious studies in Qom as part of their in-service training organised by the Ministry of Education. During this visit, they attended a two-hour presentation that was critical of the Babi and Baha’i Faiths.

On 14 and 15 May 2007, Iranian online news agencies (Ayandeh Roushan and Rasa) published an article reporting on the publication in Tabriz of an 85-page booklet and accompanying CD that provide an “Introduction to Baha’ism” for high school religious teachers. That article hints at a number of inaccuracies about the Faith and its history, such as the oft-repeated falsehood regarding the British and Russian colonial role in the Faith’s development and its current relationship to Israel.

Denial of access to university education

After being admitted to universities in Iran last autumn for the first time in 25 years, Baha'i students have nevertheless been expelled in increasing numbers throughout the academic year as their religion has become known to school officials, evidence that the government’s policy of opening the doors to Baha'i students is nothing but a sham, designed to mislead international human rights monitors.

In February, the Baha'i International Community reported that of the 178 Baha'is admitted to universities this school year, at least 70 had been expelled.

As of 3 May 2007, that figure has risen to 104, meaning that more than 58 percent of Baha'i students admitted since the beginning of current academic year have now been expelled, solely on the grounds of their adherence to the Baha’i Faith.

Denial of means of livelihood

Over the past six months, efforts to deny Baha’is their means of livelihood have accelerated and have included the following tactics:

* refusals to issue or renew business licenses;
* closing Baha’i-owned businesses;
* encouraging banks to close bank accounts of Baha’is and to refuse loan applications from Baha’is;
* issuing instructions to chain stores and government offices to avoid purchasing from companies owned by Baha’is;
* refusing to pay retirement benefits to Baha’is in private-sector employment in some regions of the country; and,
* threatening private-sector employers against hiring Baha’is and harassing such employers to dismiss Baha’i employees.

For example, on 10 April 2007, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of a company was summoned to the office of the Information Ministry in Sanandaj and told that because the company had a Baha’i employee, it was going to be shut down unless it fired the Baha’i.

Dissemination of misinformation to incite the population against the Baha’is

Inflammatory material about the Faith and its adherents continues to be spread through the mass media.

Scurrilous attacks on the Faith are still appearing in “Kayhan,” one of the oldest and most influential newspapers in Iran. This daily newspaper is published by the Kayhan Institute and is currently managed by Hossein Shariatmadari, who is also the representative of the Supreme Leader at the Institute. Most recently, the newspaper carried on Page 1 the opening lines of an article titled “An Interview with a Person Saved from Bahaism.” This was the first installment in a series of interviews with Bihzad Jahangiri (his new Muslim name is Husayn Fallah) a former Baha’i who, along with Mahnaz Raoufi, his former wife, converted to Islam about 10 years ago. During the past year, “Kayhan” also ran a series of articles based on the so-called “memoir” of Mahnaz Raoufi, with the same intent — to “expose” the inner workings of the Baha’i community.

This 15 May 2007 Kayhan article is typical of these recent attacks. The article falsely implies, for example, that Baha'is have their marriage partners chosen for them and that Baha'is live together before marriage. It also misrepresents the number of Baha'is inside and outside of Iran.

Desecration of Baha’i properties

Some Baha’i cemeteries have been vandalized over the past six months.

Denial of freedom of movement

Although, in recent years, some Baha'is have managed to obtain passports and to travel in and out of Iran with relative freedom, lately some Baha’is have had their passports confiscated when endeavoring to travel outside Iran. As well, some Baha’is, such as those who are involved in coordinating community activities on an ad hoc basis, have also been placed on “no fly” lists.

For example, the passports of the members of a Baha’i family were confiscated when they were at the airport en route to Kuwait. The official with whom they met about this matter told them: “You [i.e. the Baha’is] are all spies and we will not let you go abroad [to carry out] spying activities. We will take measures to stop you.”

Denial of access to legal process

Discrimination against Baha'is in the legal system continues to be a problem. In February 2007, for example, the Public Court of Justice in Falard decided not to hear a lawsuit “due to the plaintiffs’ belonging to the Baha’ist sect.”

The harassment and intimidation of Baha’is and their non-Baha’i friends, including physical assaults.

Currently, there are four Baha'is in prison. As well, since March 2005, more than 120 Baha'is have been arrested or detained for short periods of time, ranging from several days to several months. All of these individuals are out on bail and awaiting trial on charges solely related to their religious activities.

Baha’is across Iran continue to experience an escalation in acts of personal harassment.

For example, a movement continues to target Baha’i households, which have been receiving intimidating and threatening notes, CDs and tracts aimed at refuting the claims of the Baha'i Faith. In some cases, these messages have been sent to all the members of a family, regardless of age. Many Baha’is have also received provocative text (SMS) messages on their cell phones. At first, the messages most commonly received were:

* Do you know that you are being used by America to clear its way?
* Do you know that your approach to “wisdom” in teaching your Faith means misleading others?
* Those who respond rudely, we will ignore, as such responses are indicative of the real Baha’i morals. Those who respond politely, we will soon meet in person.

The tone of the messages has become more blatantly threatening. For example, last year messages included such statements as:

* Baha’i Teacher = Foreign Infantry.
* Baha’is, do you know that your cooperation with America makes the Muslims hate you and that they will take their revenge on you?
* Baha’is, do you know that your cooperation with America at this time and under such sensitive conditions will cause the hatred of the Muslims and will have consequences for you?

On several occasions Baha’is being interrogated by government officials have been asked why they do not simply leave the country.

Individuals who wish to join Baha’is in their activities have been interrogated, insulted, and threatened.

Baha’i military trainees are subject to harassment.

A final incident of concern

Of special concern during the recent period is the news that two elderly Baha'i women were murdered by unidentified assailants in two separate cities in late winter 2007.

On 16 February 2007, Saltanat Akhzari, an 85-year-old resident of Abbas Abad, a dependency of Abadeh in Shiraz, was slain in her home. The following day, Shah Beygom Dehghani, a 77-year-old Baha'i, was viciously assaulted by a masked intruder in her home in Mohammadiyyeh, in the province of Isfahan. Mrs. Dehghani died on 7 March 2007. The two women are unrelated.

Both victims are elderly women who were alone at the time of the attacks, which occurred in their homes in relatively small towns, and each was brutally assaulted. The body of Mrs. Akhzari was found in her house with her hands and feet bound and her mouth gagged while Mrs. Dehghani was lured out of her house in the middle of the night and then savagely attacked with a lawn rake.

While the motive for these attacks remains unknown at this time, the Baha’is in Iran have indicated that the similarity between the two murders is alarming.

ما امضا کنندگان این بیانیه که به ناگزیر میهن و خانواده خود ترک کرده ایم، با ابراز نفرت و انزجار از اقدامات حقوق بگیران وزارت اطلاعات استبداد مذهبی حاکم در ایران توجه هموطنانمان را به حیله های دستگاههای جاسوسی و تروریستی این رژیم جلب کرده و خواستار آن هستیم که دولتهای اروپایی قاطعانه مانع فعالیتهای مزدوران و جاسوسان رژیم ایران در کشورهای اروپایی شوند. از همه ی ایرانیان آزاده درخواست می کنیم باهمه توان در شناساندن و افشای انجمنها و رسانه هایی که به وسیله سرویسهای امنیتی رژیم ایران در کشورهای اروپایی هدایت می شوند، تلاش کنند.

I am telling my brother that I may have an interview in Urdu and he knows I haven’t practiced Urdu for almost 17 years. He says take dad with you so that he can translate for you! Of the four years my dad lived in Pakistan he learned to combine his Persian with Urdu and some English and now Danish. When he goes shopping the mixture of the four languages confuse everyone but him! With such limited language proficiency he has biked throughout Scandinavia and has visited as many European countries as the continent offers nations.

  

 

I was reading Iranaintruth and noticed a comment by some guy who hasn’t grown much since 2003! Asad Baheri or what ever this guy’s name is has linked to one of his old postings emphasizing he was right then and is right now. Several years have passed since Shirin Ebadi’s noble peace prize. The issues I had highlighted about her in my articles have all been proven right to a point that even her supporters have started to question Ms. Ebadi but this guy hasn’t come out of his coma! He is one of those who believe Khomeini’s image was rightfully showing on the moon and only those who live in Iran may speak about Iran! As if people should not discuss the crimes of the Iranian regime because an evil Asad – the name he rightfully goes by – and his likemind friends think so! Just last month 35 Iranians were executed in Iran and 13 of those executions happened in the streets! Who knows maybe he is waiting for Bob Ney to be released out of jail so that he can start his own NIAC version!

گزارشگران: نخستین سمینار سراسری در باره کشتار زندانیان سیاسی در ایران، در تابستان 2005 در کلن- آلمان بر گزار شد. امسال نیز، از 24 تا 26 اوت، دومین گردهمایی سراسری در شهر کلن تدارک دیده شده است. ضرورت بر گزاری چنین گردهمائی هائی را چگونه ارزیابی میکنید؟

شیما کلباسی: مهم این است که ما فراموش نکنیم که بر ما چه گذشته است. اگر از قربانی حافظه اش را بگیری او را به مومی در دستان خود بدل کرده ای. ما دیگر قربانی نیستیم: بازمانده ایم. ولی باز باید مدام حافظه خودمان را در آماده باش نگاه داریم. هرگز و تحت هیچ شرایطی نباید حتی کوچکترین جزئیات مربوط به جنایات این رژیم را نیز از یاد برد. هرگز! فقط در این صورت می توانیم فاصله اخلاقی خود را با این رژیم حفظ کنیم و از آن مهمتر خود را موظف نگه داریم که در رویارویی با آن از تاکتیک ها ی وی استفاده نکنیم. از این گذشته باید یاد قربانیان آن کشتار و کشتارهای دیگر را گرامی داشت و به بحث پیرامون گام های بعدی در مبارزه با رژیم نیز پرداخت. به این دلایل برگزاری چنین سمینارهایی ضروری است.

... مسئله بیشتر از آنکه سیاسی باشد حقوق بشری است. سمینارهایی از این دست را نباید سیاسی کرد. باید همه طیف های آسیب دیده و قربانی داده را گرد هم آورد.

Iran and Iranians are not the same as the Iranian regime and I don’t see why Trita Parsi is mentioned amongst those who qualify to speak about Iran but Reza Pahlavi doesn’t! Just because Reza’s father was a dictator and my own father was a prisoner during Shah’s regime doesn’t mean that Reza Pahlavi shouldn’t speak about Iran. He hasn’t committed any crime against humanity as far as I know. And No! Reza Pahlavi is NOT uneducated about Iran. His ideas regarding the future of Iran maybe self satisfactory but he sure knows what he talks about and unlike Trita Parsi who so far has not given one interview in Persian, Pahlavi speaks the language fluently. I wonder why Dr. Trita Parsi didn’t participate on VOA’s debate between the regime lobiests in the U.S. and Hassan Daioleslam, the author of several exposing articles. And yes! Trita Parsi has been on Fox too!

Is it really that difficult to see why the Iranian regime has arrested these five Iranian Americans? After 27 years of what this regime has committed against humanity why their actions is shocking to some people is beyond my understanding! Do we forget the summer of 1988 when Khomeini accepted a ceasefire in the war with Iraq and his Fatwa to massacre the political prisoners? Now the regime is talking with the U.S. government and to keep its ever hating U.S. face they are beating Iranian women, and arresting Iranian American scholars those who have never published one political article against the regime! Even Shakeri who seems to be the political one and has a few articles published here and there has never written anything about the regime but the current U.S. administration!

Here is my recent interview with the Voice of America. The topic was Human Rights and political prisoners in Iran. I don’t know if I am pregnant or just looking like this these days. The thing is I can’t talk without smiling and this is the first time in my life (I guess) that I am talking so seriously that my soul feels drained from the absence of my smile! It's also interesting that my living in Denmark for many years shows with such strength. The fact that when I don’t know the answer to a question regarding a Kurdish Iranian prisoner in Iran I don’t pretend to know and don’t come up with hundred and one tale, the Iranian style! There was another Human Rights Activist who gave info on the mistreatment of the prisoners in Iran and reminded us about Haleh Esfandiari as well. I had got the call for this interview a day before yesterday. I wish I had time to prepare. The producer and the journalist who interviewed me were peaceful and kind to me and to the other guest. Later when I was getting ready to leave I met a few American fans! They complimented me on my camera presence and were interested in buying my Echoes in Exile but I just signed and gave one to each of them as my gift of the day. What can I say I am such a charming soul!

I wanted to blog about this conference when I first heard about it from a fellow blogger a few days ago in D.C. but it slipped my mind. Some of the people who have attended this conference -in my opinion- shouldn’t have been invited in the first place. One of them is Mohsen Sazegara. What is it they are trying to accomplish by inviting Sazegara who directly or indirectly had a hand in the massacre of Iranians under the oppressive regime of Iran?

Kazem Darabi Kazerouni, the Iranian regime’s agent who was convicted and imprisoned for assassination of Iranian dissidents is soon to be released. After murder of Iranian dissidents in Berlin and the Mykonos case this terrorist was sentenced to life in prison. Why is he released and to be returned back to Iran! Apparently the regime is exchanging Darabi with Donald Klein.

  

 

Sergei has fallen into a circle of producing horse shit (I apologize for the term but I am merely borrowing words from Sergei' literary treasure) and uncontrollable anger.

Everything about Sergei indicates that he is a newcomer to the political arena (welcome Sergei). And as every novice does, he defines things in his own little way to draw inconsistent twisted conclusions. For example, let's agree with Sergei for a moment that apartheid is only about racial discrimination. Arab Israeli citizens enjoy more rights than most Arabs do elsewhere in the Arab world. Therefore Arabs in the occupied territory could not be discriminated on the basis of race only. This makes "Israeli apartheid" a misnomer if we want to go by Sergei's lexicon. Let's not confuse things. Adding or removing the "apartheid" label doesn't make heinous acts suddenly more or less heinous, especially if the term is used to draw conclusions or absurd comparisons as Sergei does. Peel apart little Sergei's line of reasoning and you find the following absurd universe:

Apartheid bad, Israel apartheid, Islamic regime not apartheid, Israel has nuclear weapons --> Israel bad, Israel much worse than Islamic regime, Islamic Regime should have even more weapons than Israel!

On a related note: I've lost count of the number of times the Middle Eastern tyrants have promised to throw Jews into the sea or to wipe Israel off the map.


Another funny thing about this novice is that he is now the ultimate judge on whether or not Iran (with or without mullahs) should possess nuclear arsenal or power plants. In many parts of the world, issues such as this especially if they involve putting nuclear reactors near residential areas are discussed at length openly and free of coercion, censorship, and intimidation to let all voices and concerns be heard: from safety of the reactors to the geopolitical implications of such move and so many other things. In Iran, Ahmadinejad banned any discussion about uranium enrichment suspension and now little Serge with his fatwa!

Little Sergei pretends that IAEA and Al Baradei are all on the side of mullahs, another sign of his ignorance. Al Baradei's point has all along been that Iran is taking full advantage of IAEA's loopholes. Al Baradei has his set of roles and responsibilities and the IAEA governing council has its. How do you think Iran's case was brought in the security council?

Khomeini once said, "I am not a sportsman but I like sportsmen". Sergei said I am not an Islamic regime agent but perhaps he likes Islamic regime agents.

Hello! This is the same regime that executed thousands of prisoners based on three simple questions and still stones women to death! Now that's mildly repressiv?! As a matter of fact the arrest of Haleh Esfandiari is a mildly repressive act by the regime! Since when executions of thousands of Iranians is a mild act and Haleh Esfandiari’s arrest is equivalent of a KGB state?
